The Canada Greener Homes Loan is an interest-free, government-backed loan that helps homeowners pay for energy-efficient improvements. You can borrow between $5,000 and $40,000, and you have up to 10 years to pay it back—completely interest-free.
How Does it Work?
Here’s how you can take advantage of this easy and affordable financing:
Step 1: Get a Home Energy Assessment
Contact a registered energy advisor to conduct a pre-retrofit assessment of your home. They’ll recommend upgrades like ENERGY STAR® windows and doors.
Step 2: Plan and Get Quotes
Choose your preferred upgrades based on your energy advisor’s recommendations. Get detailed quotes from LAB Windows & Doors before applying.
Step 3: Apply for the Loan
Submit your application online before starting any renovations. You’ll need:
- Your pre-retrofit energy assessment report
- Quotes from LAB Windows
- Proof of ID, homeownership, and income
- Your property tax bill or assessment
Important: Do not start any work before submitting your loan application—otherwise, you won’t qualify.
Step 4: Approval and Initial Funding
Once approved, you can get up to 15% of the loan upfront if your contractor requires a deposit. The rest is paid after the work is complete.
Step 5: Complete Your Home Upgrades
Work with LAB Windows & Doors to finish the upgrades listed in your approved application.
Step 6: Post-Retrofit Evaluation
Schedule a final evaluation with your energy advisor to verify the completed upgrades.
Step 7: Receive Your Funds
Submit your final invoices online to receive your loan funds. You’ll get the balance shortly after approval.
Who Qualifies?
You’re eligible if:
- You own and primarily live in your home (single, semi-detached, townhouse, or permanently fixed mobile home).
- You’re a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Your pre-retrofit assessment was done on or after April 1, 2020.
- You haven’t started any upgrades before applying.
